Privacy.
The short version: we only collect what you write to us, and we only use it to write back.
Draft for review. Have this checked before the site goes live.
What we collect
When you fill in a form on this site, we receive what you type: your name, your business, your email address and your message. If you nominate someone for Five Letters, we also receive what you tell us about them.
What we use it for
To read your message and reply to it. To send you the thing you asked for, such as a note when the journal opens. Nothing else.
What we do not do
- We do not sell or rent your details.
- We do not add you to a mailing list you did not ask for.
- We do not use advertising trackers on this site.
Who else sees it
The form and email services that deliver your message to us process it on our behalf. Their names will be listed here once they are set up.
How long we keep it
For as long as we are in conversation, and for a reasonable time afterwards. Ask us to delete it at any time and we will.
Write a Khatt
A Khatt you write on this site is private, and we cannot read it. It is locked in your own browser before it leaves, and the only key is in the link you send, in the part after the # sign, which your browser does not pass to our server. Sometimes the whole letter travels inside the link and is stored nowhere. Sometimes, to keep the link short, we hold the locked envelope: something we have no way of opening, and which you can take back. Anyone who has the link can open the letter, so send it only to the person it is for.
While you are writing, a draft is kept in your own browser so that you do not lose it. It is removed when you finish, or when you choose Start over.
We never ask for the other person’s email address. If you send your Khatt by email, your own email app sends it.
At the end you may choose to leave one line with us for the Khatt Archive. That is the only thing we keep: the line you chose, the kind of person it was written to, and the paper it was written on. No name, no signature, no date, and nothing that connects the line to you or to your letter. Someone at the studio reads each line before it appears. If you say nothing, nothing is kept.
Private work
If we share unpublished work with you after you ask about a project, it may come with a confidentiality note. Please keep it to yourself.
